Chicken Fights

When I was growing up I spent a lot of time at the lake with a bunch of cousins. We had huge chicken fights. The smaller kids got on the shoulders of the older kids and waged a war to see who could be the last one standing. I was one of the younger cousins so I usually got to be on the shoulders of one of my older cousins. We spent hours playing this game and had incredible fun.
Leading a growing church is challenging! One of the things I often think about is Harrah Church’s need for additional staff. The challenge of course is like most churches we don’t have the resources to hire all the people we need. It’s dangerous to think this way because you begin dwelling on what you don’t have instead of what you do.
While I don’t have all the staff I need at Harrah Church I am thankful for the incredible staff I do have. I am also extremely grateful for the incredible volunteers I have who show up every week to make things happen.
Without our volunteers we could not achieve anything at Harrah Church. So here’s to you:
- Greeters who work at the welcome center
- Baristas who make the sure the lattes & coffee are ready each week
- Camera operators and media team for IMAG
- Sound and lighting techs
- Trustees who count the offering and secure the buildings
- Nursery and children workers who minister to the kids
- Small group leaders who provide vital connection
- Youth workers
- Cleaning Volunteers
- Staff
- And every volunteer minister I didn’t mention
The secret to winning a chicken fight is in the power supporting you. The secret to building a strong and healthy church is not only the power of Christ inside you but also the power of the volunteer minister underneath you. I am grateful for the people who hold me up each week so I can deliver the Gospel. I am having a blast standing on their shoulders and fighting for the King. Harrah Church would be nothing without you!

First of all…. so excited that my pastor is blogging!
Also, I would like to thank all those volunteers as well. It is amazing to see the passion that so many people of Harrah Church have every week (or day for that matter). I try to help out where I can and when I get to a point of not having two little ones at home during the day, I would love to be able to help out during the weekdays as well!
I love my church and want to do whatever I can to help it thrive!
WOOHOO Looks how hip our pastor is
I would love to thank all of the volunteers that make our WONDERFUL church such a great place to be! I am very proud to be a member of Harrah Church
Congrats on the new blog! Love what you’re doing at Harrah Church!
Your story reminds of the old saying “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” I know we aren’t dogs, but we are in a battle…a spiritual battle. It’s not how big our church is, it’s all the committed members with Christ inside of us that makes us powerful. Each day we are growing stronger, bigger, and healthier. I know that at Harrah Church, we are doing our part to help win this battle and win souls. We couldn’t do it without all the people working hard behind the scenes.
Thanks for blogging Jimmy. I like reading practical applications of spiritual truths.
Congrats on the new blog! I’m so looking forward to following it. I put a link up on planetdanno so that folks that read mine (all three of them) can find there way over
Let me just say that it is a privilege to serve on the media team and as a small group leader at Harrah Church. This body of Christ is growing and getting stronger each and every day. You can see it happening through all the ministries within the church. Just know how proud we all are of your leadership!!
Love this Jimmy! Looking forward to reading it!
I just wanted to say Thank You for being such an amazing pastor. I have learned so much since I started attending and finding christ has changed my life in the most amazing way. I would like to also say thanks to everyone who helps make Harrah Church so wonderful. I am so very grateful that I have such an awesome church to call home.
I am very proud to say that I am a member of Harrah Church! I think that it is the most amazing place I have ever been. I love volunteering, as well as being on staff and working there. You are really an awesome boss to have!
Jimmy your a great guy, but your not getting on my shoulders. KIDDING. Man, you have zeal and knowledge and God has told you what to do and you have listened, you can’t go wrong with that. Love man, nothin but Love.
New ways to get the gospel to the world does not change the message. I am so happy that you still know the only way to the hearts of people is to give them the Word. Thanks for letting me be a part of a growing, healthy Harrah Church. I enjoy the stories you share!
Jimmy-
Roland and I knew the first time we walked into Harrah Church we were finally “Home”. We have been attending for almost 10 years now and I can honestly say I can’t imagine serving my KING anywhere else. I love being a small group leader and volunteering at the Christian school to name a few. The way you allow God to speak truth through you week after week convicts and inspires me as it does so many others and that is so evident. You are a true man of God! Keep the blogging coming. I look forward to reading them all.
