Temptation Management
Temptation is a constant part of our lives and there are dire consequences when we succumb to it so we better learn how to manage it. Here is what the Bible has taught me about managing temptation.
I have to stay alert.
NIV Mark 14:38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
We must keep our spiritual eyes and be alert. I love to study the Bible because it keeps me sharp and alert spiritually.
I have to rely on the Holy Spirit
NIV John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
I just rely on the truth that the Holy Spirit will remind me when I need to be reminded.
Finally I accept that my relationship with God is based on who I am not what I do.
NIV 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you– unless, of course, you fail the test?
Christ is in me and because He is in me I can overcome temptation. Each of us should take heed lest we fall but we alsoe must realize who we are in Christ. My life is not measured by what I do it is measured by who I am. I have passed the test and I will live like He is in me.
