Two Cool Things About My Book Shelter

The cover and the foreword are two really cool things about my book Shelter. The publisher and I worked really hard on the cover but we were not satisfied with anything we were coming up with.  We had to be careful because we didn’t want the title to convey that the book was about trying to shelter your kids from everything. Its not about that at all.  It is about being intentional with their spiritual development in a random world.  Its about transferring your faith to the next generation in the midst of a dangerous culture.  The image of the father holding the son and the son holding the umbrella is perfect.  Because it captures the process of the development that I think is essential.  We don’t do everything for them we guide them.

The coolest thing about the cover is that Daniel Kraeer designed it.  This was really important to me because Daniel has been with me since I started full time ministry.  He was a freshman in high school and I was a 26 year old green youth pastor.  Since then he has become one of my closest friends.  Daniel designs the graphics and handles all of the video production at Harrah Church.  It just seems right to have him design the cover of my first book.

The foreword was written by Craig Groeschel pastor of Lifechurch.tv.  I think Craig is one of the permier leaders among the Kingdom right now and I am thankful for his commitment to shaping families all over the world.  I think it is really cool that he was willing to write the foreword for me.  Tomorrow I will post it for you to read.
