LOL
Why do people write lol when they are communicating through digital means? I mean if something is funny why do you have to tell me you are laughing? Its as if you are telling me I should be laughing. I think it takes away from the overall experience. If it is funny I will know you are laughing because I will be laughing when I read it. I’m curious to hear your hang ups with digital communication. Like this one ; ) I mean really!
Psalm 126:2
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.

I agree, Jimmy, I don’t know all the abbreviations for text and im, but I do sometimes worry that people will take me seriously when I am joking. I just take my chances and leave off the clues. If these people are my friends and know me, they will know when I am joking. Right?
I think I sent you an email with an
in it today too. Don’t think I’m going to do that again. lol. ooops I lol’d …. There isn’t enough room on this blog for all my hangups on digital communication. There are so many good and bad things. I love how people can pull the bible up on the iphone now – and Holly was looking up verses on hers during church Sunday. Are our kids going to have communication skills that are lacking from all this junk? I think so…
It really doesn’t bother me I just think it is a funny thought!!
I like “lol” and “lmbo” ect….I think it’s fun and funny, but if you’re not into fun, that’s cool. I understand. That happens as people get older.
Nice! lol,
,
, The post is meant to be fun! Don’t overlook the scripture I put up there.
I usually put a “lol” on the end of something that I want to make sure that the person knows I am kidding/joking/not serious. It is so hard to convey emotion, intonation and inflection into a typed sentence sometimes. A person could really take something the wrong way. As above, if I didn’t already know you and Angela, I might think that there was a little bit of tension starting with that thread! I also put them on the end of things that I say that are just silly or maybe even self depreciating! Eeeek!
I have to admit, though. I feel a little immature when I put an “lol” on the end of something. Like I am trying to be young and hip. (there was an opportunity to put a “lol” right there!)
I love that technology enables faster access to loved ones far away, or needed information (Holly’s verses!) Technology also allows us to hide and not face the person we may be addressing. I try to keep really “hard” conversations face to face. Nothing replaces seeing the eyes of the person you are communicating with. It is more meaningful.
I get a lot of the stuff I do from being around the teenagers – they are the ones that had to tell me what lol was. Let me tell you what they pulled on Shannon and I. We were down by all the hospitals and we kept hearing sirens. I told Shannon – I hear a siren and we’d both start looking around and couldn’t see flashing lights. Shannon would say well Kris I can’t go anywhere – we were in traffic. This happened like 3 times until we figured out the brats in the backseat had a very very real-sounding siren on their phone! Now can you imagine how much fun they were having with that – and we all got a great laugh when Shannon figured it out. I’d probably have never figured out… that was some funny stuff!
and Lori – I agree!!
I wonder if David is up in heaven looking down at Charlie Hall banking off of putting a melody to his lyrics (Psalm 126) and thinking, “Where’s the spiritual ASCAP when you need it?” lol..lol..lol
