Oh the years that I resisted. I, like many, was brought up in church. In fact, my father was a pastor and is still ordained. Yet despite that upbringing, I never "got" the power, the wonder, the love, and the joy of being filled with the spirit of God.

Several years ago I was awakened and the path of my life has changed dramatically. There were times that I wasn't sure I could make it through but He has always been faithful.

I see the touch of His hand in my life all of the time and I will never lose that perspective - it is far too precious. I will spend my time doing what I can do to further His kingdom, no matter what that calling may be. When doors close, He will open others. You just have to be willing to surrender the way you think things should be and walk the new path before you.

As a church, we are all to encourage and support each other. We are to help each other grow in Christ. We are called to be the example to the unchurched. We are called to love. When we actually do these things, anything is possible - no goal unattainable because God will pave the way.

We have so much work to do, what are we waiting for?

Chapters 10 and 11 of Acts fit nicely into our study of our DNA. These chapters teach us that God is sovereign, that is, he is independent to do and act as he wants. He doesn't have to conform to our ideas or wishes. Thus, the gospel was spread to the Gentiles, anyone who wasn't a Jew. The analogy for us is that Harrah Church, being composed of "unchurched" Christians is the Gentile church as opposed to the mainline denominations who are composed of "churched" individuals (those who grew up going to church), hence, Jewish churches. The leaders of the church sent Barnabas out to see if this bunch of unchurched Gentiles had truly received the gospel and could be counted among the saved. 11:23 says Barnabas "saw the evidence of the grace of God." He noted the changed lives, lives full of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22ff). I believe Barnabas could see that here at Harrah Church. Barnabas taught them that they needed to remain faithful. He further, with Paul, spent a year teaching them. I would presume it was all the things found in Paul's Epistles. The point being is that these were people who had to mature, develop their supernatural gifts given them for the growth and maturation of the church. That has yet to happen here at Harrah Church. We are full of the joy of salvation. We need to channel that joy into the hard work of growing the church into all the things God is calling it to be. Every Christian is gifted to do something to help the body to grow and mature. Without exception. Without excuse. I wanted to quietly enjoy a retirement of sorts in the church. Not looking like that is going to happen. God is calling. We must listen and obey.

I don't think you should ever oppose God because He is the one that keeps you breathing and lets you go to heaven if you are a Christian. That's why you should never oppose Him.

I agree with my class.
Even though it is tempting to do what you want.
I've learned that the hard way!
