Spiritual ID

Beware of the trap of meaninglessness.  It is so easy to be controlled by what others think.  The clothes we wear, the cars we drive, the homes we buy, etc., are all chosen to reflect our identity. Deep down people often believe that “stuff” will help us achieve a certain level of peaceful happiness.  Not so!  The only way to find contentment in this world is to realize that your identity comes from Jesus Christ; not your style or what others think about you.  As you walk through life concern yourself with who He thinks you are and you will do well.  When is the last time you had your ID checked?

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do everything through him who gives me strength.  (Phillipian 4:11-13)

    I have journeyed through life living both ways – always buying new things, driving new cars, chasing after things – and now I live life the opposite – because of bad decisions, I drive older vehicles, I don’t shop without a list, or unless I need something, and my house is old. So I’m forced to live life differently – but that’s probably although one of the hardest lessons I ever learned – the best one. The last three years of being broke are the best years of my life! I’m fulfilled because I finally care about what the Lord cares about – the rest of that junk is all rubbish. When you chase after God and care about eternal things, your wants and desires change. Life then has real meaning.

    I don’t like being broke all the time. We’re on a plan though. We’ll be debt free in 12 years and I can retire 3 years after that. I’m rich in Faith, Hope and Love but a little more cash wouldn’t hurt.

    And I certainly haven’t been fiscally responsible my whole life but I wouldn’t say I’m grossly negligent by chasing meaningless things. I’m somewhere in between I guess. Being in between isn’t good enough in these times though.

    In all my 13 years of marriage, I have experienced lean times and abundant times. I have been in church all my life and have always known that it is important to be happy whatever lot I find myself in and to praise the Lord regardless. I am sooo thankful that I have learned through trial and error to lean upon the Lord, NO MATTER WHAT, COME WHAT MAY. My life would not have any meaning without the Lord’s presence.
