Beggars Can Be Choosers

God loves beggars!  When Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit I believe He had prayer in mind.  A person who is poor in spirit is a spiritual pauper.  Paupers rely on others for relief.  They get so desperate they are willing to beg for assistance. Their pride goes out the door in the name of survival.  Jesus in essence is saying blessed are those who are willing to beg God for their needs.  You see a beggar has nothing to offer and realizes it.  He pleads without shame because he is desperately in need.  Throughout the Gospels Jesus takes up prayer as one of His primary subjects.  He wants His followers to pray.  More emphatically He wants us to beg.  E.M. Bounds fittingly says, “Beggars are God’s princes.”  Why are beggars God’s princes?  Because beggars come to God with nothing and He gets the pleasure of providing their everything.  We spend far too much time trying to make things happen instead of just begging God to do it.  Beggars can be choosers.  They make the choice to beg God instead of doing it themselves!

That’s good stuff Jimmy – very wise!! It seems we are always closest to God when we are the most desperate and then we get on track and many times start doing things in our own power and we forget about the Power of God, and I can’t help but think – maybe we were in a better place when we had to fully rely on him – when we were at our lowest…

I entered the Kingdom after begging. I was leveled to my knees back in May and he helped me up. Submission back up the mountain feels so good. I love the lessons on the way. It isn’t always easy for me to submit to truth …especially if it means I have to change a sin I have grown comfortable in. Humility can seem uncomfortable but feeling his presence through it makes it all worth it. The key is to implement begging in your everyday life…even on days you feel on top of the world. Thank you God for my awesome day! Please make me small and the truth of this day big so I can feel your presence. Please, I am begging you.
